Carolina Flowers is hiring! Please read all the information below before applying. The application deadline is Monday, March 4, 2019.

What to Expect

Carolina Flowers is an independent, woman-owned flower farm in the mountains of Marshall, North Carolina. The flower business comprises four separate properties, including about 4 acres of farmland and a warehouse for production and storage.

We believe farming connects us to the environment and our community, and we feel really strongly about representing the work we do in a good-natured, positive and inclusive way.

The land is our livelihood, but it’s our perspective on the land that keeps us going. When there’s thundersnow in April or a surprise mid-afternoon deluge during an important workday, we believe in laughing it off and continuing to work for the benefit of the farm in the best way we know how.

We work extremely hard. Heavy lifting, ignoring insects, crushing insects, getting rained on, getting muddy, splinters, cuts, bruises, aching backs and other unpleasantries are part of what we do here. But we also grow beautiful flowers, and we experience moments of sublime calm and happiness when we’re working in the fields. We feel an enormous sense of accomplishment for a job well done, and we love the community that’s developed around the farm. It feels extremely rewarding to us to be part of something larger than ourselves.

We also work smart. Our jobs are not common drudgery, although they will seem that way to some. Rather, we’re always looking for ways to become more efficient and productive. We believe that even the smallest, seemingly dullest task can be improved when a person takes an interest in it. If we don’t like doing something, we accept the challenge of finding a way to do it better, faster, more efficiently -- or we think of a way to eliminate that task in favor of one that makes more sense. We see the farm and flower business as enormously stimulating and full of opportunity.

We sell flowers for wholesale, farmers markets, restaurants, weddings, events and more. We are proud of the work we do, and we represent the farm in a positive, good-natured way wherever we go. In our attitude and demeanor, we try to reflect the flowers we grow that bring so much joy.

We love to have fun, although we are very focused. We like to laugh, although we are not cynical and prefer a sense of humor that delights in comradeship. We take our work very seriously, but when we need to let go of something, we do.

We prize teamwork above all else, but we will also ask our employees to work independently. We have an established workflow for the way we plant, harvest, process and sell our flowers, and we expect employees to follow directions. However, we also value creativity, innovation and new ideas -- communicated in the right time and place. We strive for order but acknowledge that our young, spread out farm is an exercise in controlled chaos -- and sometimes just chaos. We’re OK with that, and we expect the people who work here to stay calm and focused even when things feel chaotic.

We love what we do, and we’re excited to grow our team.
